Lowered my longbed today

Finally got around to lowering the truck. 3/4 ton long bed... I used 2 1/2" dropped spindles in the front (from POL). Really easy to install but it threw my alignment way off- both wheels toe out about 2" from before- no biggee an alignment will fix that...

For the back, I pulled the 6 pack leaf spring and sent them to A-1 Spring in Oakland, ca. The owner Rueben removed one leaf and then de-arched the springs. He tool 4 1/2" out of each pack. Only I problem I see- looks like the wheel moved forward a bit in the wheel well....

Next is rims and tires, I had a nice set of aluminum wheels picked out, but now I'm thinking 16 x 10" rear and 16x 8" fronts, powder coated white and then polish the hub caps.....

Looks great. Can't wait till you get it all aligned up front and let us know how it handles.

Re: Lowered my longbed today

im in the process of dropping my long bed also. did you have to do tierod ends and ball joints too? when i got mine all torn apart i realized the original balljoints and tierod ends were still there and were in terrible shape. man those those ball joints were a pain. your truck looks great, make sure to post pics when you get those wheels and tires.

Truck looks great!

It is always a good idea to replace 40 year old tie rods and ball joints and other front and rear end components...otherwise your suspension upgrade efforts are a waste of time.

my rear wheel looks the same as yours. Slightly forward in the wheel well. Mine is not lowered. Can anyone confirm thats normal?

That's a really good look! I think the 16's with powdercoat and caps would look really good. Then again, there's not too many rims that don't look good on these trucks, so you certainly have options!

Re: Lowered my longbed today

I'm pretty sure all these trucks came with the rear wheels slightly forward and not centered. Your truck is looking good by the way.
