What all should i take from a 95 k2500 parts truck - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have access to a complete 95(has the new-er style interior than my 92) K2500 reg cab long bed for parts. It hit a pole pretty hard so its pretty much junk. rad pushed into the engine, entire engine pushed back and i am fairly certain pushed the drive shaft into the transfer case braking it.

I can more or less take whatever i need off of it. SO, before it hits the scrappers, what are some things you guys would recommend salvaging for my 72 k20 rebuild?

At the moment i am taking the fuel door and fuel filler neck for a marker light fuel door

I thought i had read somewhere that the cruise control from one of these style trucks would work on the 72. Maybe this was the 94-older trucks?

Plan on taking the Tail lights and mirrors for my 92

Anything i am missing?

The cruise control uses a 4000pulse/mile signal and is great for Tuned Port swaps. I suppose you could get a VSS generator to put on your speedo cable and use it. They really are very nice and smooth.

The '95 dash is much nicer than the '92, but it is a really big job to swap. The firewall cutouts are different, the mounts are different, the computer is different, etc. You are better to do a cab swap. Then you have to go all '95 wiring and have to deal with VIN issues.

I would still take the engine/trans/transfer case. The TBI motors are not power houses, but they last a long time and are very reliable. 4L60E and transfer case may at least be good for parts.

If it has 8 lug wheels then it should have a 4L80e + 14 bolt rear axle.

6 lug "2500's" got the 4L60e and 9 1/2 inch axle.

4x4 should have a gov-loc in the axle also.

I think there's few bucks to be made off that stuff before it goes to scrap.

thanks guys. it is an 8 lug. is the 14 bolt the axle that would work for the rear of my 72. I've currently got an Eaton with a locker but just curious

It should have a 4l80 trans. i would keep that for sure.

The steering box, can use it for crossover steering on live axle trucks.
The seats might be worth grabbing for something if they are in good shape, same goes for the tilt column if it has it.

I would take the engine and wiring harness as previously mentioned. As well as any other drivetrain parts.

Rear springs as well, 63" springs ride a lot better then the shorter 52 or 56" springs of the older trucks.

I took a 92 to the junk yard a few years back, I still often need random things I should have pulled off that truck before I took it down there.
