Think I've Identified the "Squeel"

So over the last few months my truck has developed a squeel coming from the front left wheel, or so I thought.

The squeel would start at about 15 mph give or take and increase as I accelerated. This gave me the impression that it was something in the wheel, possibly bearings or brakes.

So Saturday I changed the wheel bearings, no fix. Changed the brake pads (they needed it anyways), no fix.

I was stumped. I started to recall that my power steering has been a little funny, whinning on some turns or doing so for an extended time. I checked the fluids, all good.

Is it possible that this squeel is actually my power steering pump going out?

Maybe, but you need to go back to step 1, which is separating engine speed related noises from vehicle speed related noises.

If it was brake/wheel bearing/ etc, then it would do it at that speed with the engine off.

If it is power steering related than it will do it at the problem engine rpm even if the vehicle is not moving.

This will help you "split the dictionary" and get focused on the right part of the truck. Right now you don't sound so sure.

One other thing that I forgot to mention is that if I'm driving at a speed where it is squeeling if I jerk the wheel back and forth the noise diminishes or at least lessens. Another reason I was leaning towards power steering

So RPM's have no part in the noise, the truck made the noise no matter what RPM's.

Is there any other part that would squeel outside of the wheel as the truck increases with speed (not increasing RPM's)? I know that may sound silly but wanted to make sure.

Also I only changed the left side wheel bearings thinking that was where the squeel was coming from, maybe it's tricking me and the sound is actually coming from the right?

Any other ideas or anyone have a similar experience?

Truck is 2wd. No trim rings, just AR Torque Thrust.

I'm stumped, I'll change the right wheel bearings this weekend, maybe my hearing has gone astray.

I had that kind of noise when I had a '72 GMC and it turned out to the the carrier bearing on the two piece drive-shaft spinning in the rubber mount. Of course this may not be your problem since you think the noise is coming from the front-end.

So - Juiceman - a quick check might be to unhook the driveshaft and coast down a hill to see if the noise is still there...

Mine does the same thing. I have changed everything except the brake rotors. I think the rotors maybe warped?? To add to the confusion, my only squeeks in cold or cooler weather. The cooler weather in Texas is gone now and so has the squeek.
