Out of hibernation

Its been a long wait, but, finally, hopefully, I will get my Burb back from the shop, ready to roll. She was starting and running rough, but made it to the repair shop. Main proceedure will be a new fly wheel, along with some other (hopefully) minor tweaking. It felt so good to get 'er out on the road. And we can't forget my trusty side kick, Thomas. Yall keep your fingers crossed!!

Won't that make your rear end look fat? Sorry, couldn't resist.

Re: Out of hibernation

That burb has been chomping at the bit for awhile now. I hope you have those nagging problems fixed real soon so you can take that beauty out and get some miles on her this summer.

Re: Out of hibernation

I know this makes you happy. Much happier once it's outta the shop! I'd wager the fuel went south making it start and run badly,if it ran ok before. This stuff they sell us is pure crap.

Re: Out of hibernation

Since you brought it up. My fix it guy says I should either be running ethanol free fuel or adding something to every tank. He says the regular gas is part of the reason it's running bad? Any input?

If you have 100% gasoline (not E-10/E-12/E-15) available I would absolutely run that. You will get better mileage.

As far as running rough, you made it sound like its been sitting a long time? If so, pump out the fuel and replace it with fresh juice. Replace the fuel filter(s) while you are at it (likely sucked up a lot of junk)

My guy said that there is one station here that sells ethanol free gas. I will run it if y'all say it's best. Yes, it has been sitting off and on for a couple years. Seems like I fix one thing, another one goes south.

It looks really good Jodie. I'm sure it will be great when you get it running well too.
Summer's coming, have a blast with it.

Re: Out of hibernation

And a can of sea foam in the tank too. It will help clean the inside your carb up if you don't need to have it rebuilt.

Madison,FL - I use to share a hunting lease over there back in the 90's. Pretty area...

Re: Out of hibernation

Locdoc, lol. Thank you sir. Cookies are magic

Mr. Passmore, would I need sea foam if I'm using ethanol free gas? I'm hoping I dont need a rebuild. I'm ready to get it on the road already. I've been in Madison for almost 5 years. It's home. We live in a quiet area, I'm hoping to change that with getting my truck running. ;-).

Re: Out of hibernation

I would be a good idea but, if its been sitting quite a while with ethanol gas in the carb. I would go for the rebuild. Ethanol added fuel (gas) is corrosive. Plastic and rubber items seem to distort and weaken over a period of time. I run non-ethanol as much as I can. Usually, rotate one tank of ethanol free 89 octane and then one tank of 10% ethanol 89 octane - Shell or BP brand. Every 3K oil change, I dump a can of sea foam in the tank with the next fill-up. Works for me...

Wish you were closer, Q-Jet carb rebuild (R&R) would take 2 hrs of labor and a rebuild kit for $25.00.
