Re: what stall to run
That cam has less lift but more duration then the cam I run on my 6.0 with a 4L85e and 3.73 rear end. I have a 3000-3200 stall convertor that winds up bring closer to 2700-2800rpm. In your case I wouldn't order anything less then a 3500 stall with lockup.
My convertor is loose as a goose in "normal" driving but yet when it hits OD...the slip is gone which is great for cruising at 2000rpm or whatever. Just have to be above 40mph or so...or its gonna slip. Keep in mind they make more heat and you will need a trans cooler or improved trans cooling capability. Stock stall the trans hardly got over 165* or so, usually less. Runs closer to 180*-190* range now... w/o leaning on it.

Re: what stall to run
I'd put a 3600 stall lockup Yank or Revmax in it.
Revmax makes a nice converter...been holding up to a ton of nitrous LS abuse and not missed a beat. Something like half the price of a Yank, also.

Re: what stall to run
wow those are cheaper then most. I'm happy with my Circle D but if I need another convertor for something else in the future I'll give these guys a try.

Re: what stall to run
Mine's getting Revmax's cheapo 3600.
Circle D, Yank, FTI, any of the big brands that advertise over on tech are good stuff. Avoid TCI, B&M and the like. With a 5.3 and that cam you're going to want a fairly loose converter. I'll agree with the 3600 recommended above. Without it you're going to have a hard time getting it to roll the tires over. |
