Powerglide Transmission Question?
As I posted a few days ago, I'm in the process of putting my 1965 C10 283 c.i. w/powerglide back together. I took the transmission to a PG specialist with 37 years of experience and this is what I learned: He said that the transmission has a reverse pump which would allow the vehicle to be pull started. During the pull process, the pump builds up fluid pressure until the converter engages and turns the engine over.
True or False? Is he blowing smoke up my "exhaust"? Input folks...... |

Yes, powerglides can be used to turn a motor over, you can push start a vehicle with them.

maybe the 61 and earlier cast iron ones. the alum pg have a front pump like a 350/400 etc. years ago we tried to push a new 68 camaro with a pg--- no go

Yep. Had a 64 Chebby with a power glide. Many a cold winter had to push start it. Couldn't afford a good battery back in the 70's. I remember the engine turning over at 22 MPH.
