My 1965 "BARNFIND"
Found this 1965 that's all original except it was painted once in 1988 because the old fella didn't like its original white top. It has 23,600 actual miles on the engine that I think is a 230 I6 (how can I tell what I6 I have?)
Always garage stored and never left outside all night in its life. Its never seen snow or salt and its been here in Michigan all its life. Im so excited to have finally found the elusive "Barn find" and to be able to share it with all of you......tell me what you all think? thanks, Roy

Re: My
Congrats on an awesome find! Too bad it was repainted, but it looks great nonetheless. Post up some interior & engine shots when you have a chance.

It even has the original bias ply tires on it including the spare
underneath from 48 years ago and there's no deterioration on them. Posted via Mobile Device

Great looking truck for sure. Great find. You dont find that kind of thing every day....esp where it snows a lot and the roads are salted.

Wow. Why does God hate the rest of us so much. Nice doesn't begin to describe that truck! Incredible find.
Also, I'm with oem4me. If you lower it I'll drive to Michigan and beat you to death with the old suspension components. |

Re: My
There IS more out there ?? WOW!! Nice to see. Its either a 230 or 292 six. 230s are blue and 292s are green. Also the engine suffix code I think is on the pad near the distributor. Let us know we can tell you exactly what it is. Also there could be a build sheet in the back seat and a protecto plate in glove box. Perfect truck to preserve !! Congrats !

Re: My
I wont be lowering this one, just looking into front discs and a dual master cylinder maybe power steering. Just for safetys sake and that the wife will be driving it too.
It does steer great once its moving and stops well but I just have to start braking sooner. I'll explain about how I got it in a little while, but Its gonna be a long one. Thanks for all the nice comments!

Re: My
Well. do what you like, its your truck, but from a guy who has a few of these low mile trucks. The Factory drums with factory power brakes added will stop it just fine. More than likely it needs all new wheel cylinders and a master, but just that and a stock power brake booster will make a cheaper and more original truck work just fine. My 66 GMC 18,000 mile truck will lock up all 4 wheels NO problem with little effort, factory power steering while a few more turns is a very easy swap also. I have both stock and modified trucks and theres no way I could modify your truck, just sayin. You have a prize find !

Re: My
Ok here's the story. First of all I never expected to find anything like this in Michigan, maybe Cali but not here. I search the local craigslist everyday for things of interest especially 60-66 trucks, just to see whats out there with no real intentions of buying one, just looking. I had one that I totally rebuilt and most of you remember what happened to it, if not see my avatar pic.
I found the ad on cl that said 65 chevy truck with low mileage but no pics but it said that they would send some if I sent them my regular email address. I sent my address and he sent me 10 pics of the truck back, I said Holy $%^t I have to have this. I called him on the phone and talked to the 76 year old gentleman for an hour about the truck and many other things. I asked him what he really wanted for the truck and he dropped the price by $2000 on the spot without any haggling!! I didnt sleep well for a night or two, as you can imagine, I rounded up some cash and went on a 1 1/2 hour trip north to Leota Michigan. Theres nothing there but a bar and tons of atv trails "and one special truck". I had borrowed the banker ladys car hauler and didnt get 10 miles and the trailer came unhitched going down the road during a driving rain storm!!!!! It bent the jack handle a little but nothing else was injured, except thats when the all day panic attack got started..lol. The rest of the trip up there was without incident. We got there and he had the truck running and showed it off to me. Again I was in awe!! I didnt haggle anymore with him because I knew what I was looking at was extremely rare. Also, I would really have felt like I took advantage of an old man if I would have asked him for a lower price. We loaded up the truck very carefully!! We had about 2 inches of room left on each side once it was loaded. Other than more more rain everything went smooth on the way home but again I was freaking out all the way home because usually when something bad happens, it usually happens to me!! And thats how it went down, just followed up on a cl ad without any pictures attatched and it worked out. Thanks for reading my long winded "how it went down" post.
