Rear shock mount
Hey guys I was wondering if I can relocate the top shock mount on my leaf spring truck. It has a hole already. If I move it to the front hole it will give me a better shock angle since I lowered the truck.
What do you guys think? Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Rear shock mount
Drill it out with a step bit and use a stock shock mount, my new Monroes came with one each. Make sure to get a fine thread nut that threads all the way down from Ace Hardware or the like (the ones that come with the mounts stop) and use a lock washer. It really helps, did this on my leaf truck after a flip/drop.

Re: Rear shock mount
That was exactly what I was going to do. The new shocks in the picture are Monroes so I have the mounts. Did it improve the ride? Also did you cut down your stock bump stops are get new? if new what kind?

Re: Rear shock mount
Ride was definitely better. Originally I cut down the bump stops by one inch but now I'm using button bump stops from the flip kit. I used the step bit and some 3 in 1 oil to cut a hole in the frame for the button bump stops over the flat part on the axle that you see in front of where the factory bumps are.

Re: Rear shock mount
i would check the shock to see what the length of travel might b in that new location// to me it looks as tho you might have a problem with it bottoming out and might really need new shorter shocks

Re: Rear shock mount
Cdowns has a good point. I forgot to ask, are you running shorter shocks? I used the stock front size Monroes.

Re: Rear shock mount
They are shorter than the stock ones just can't remember how much. But I will definitely check that. Thanks

Re: Rear shock mount
Well I have about 2 inches of travel in the shock and 3" in the suspension. So I guess I will get new shocks. Any ideas on why I should use?

Re: Rear shock mount
Ok guys here is what I did. I drilled out the 1/2" hole to 5/8" installed the new upper front shock stud mount and took the front shocks off and installed them in the rear. Took it for a ride and it was nice.
