71 C30 dually restoration

This is a title I posted a while ago with no pics here's a few of the truck when i bought it April of 2011 and some pics of what I've done so far swapped stock 350/th400 for 2006 lq9/4l80e from Chevy Silverado SS semi truck 22.5 fronts machinched down to 22s rear super singles 22,5 8-10 lug adapters it was a drive by wire but i sent the pcm back to have it flashed to a throttle cable the truck started up fine but when i gave it gas it would rev but as the pedal went down the throttle would stop and there was no more acceleration so after trying to figure it out i just decided to do away with the electric pedal i'm just waited for the pcm and pigtails for the new throttle.

Re: 71 C30 dually restoration

I cut the medal from the bottom to match up with the bottom of the truck from and the top I wanted it to be about one inch over the tallest point of the original frame I'm going to add some lbrackets that run along side of the quarter inch steal for suppport of the diamond plated bed I'm going to build and my hidden sneeker wheel lift tow unit will be mounted to the frame under the bed.

Frame already had holes in it so I just drilled holes into my reinforcement medal and bolted it to the frame like that.

Re: 71 C30 dually restoration

Hey oldno7 I bought the rims from a guy in Lancaster, ca he had the deisgn already cut into the rim and had them already machined down to 22s he had 20 rims and I kick myself for not buying another four he also sold me the 8-10 lug adapters, I bought the rear super single rims and tires from a truck company out of Los Angeles everything was from craigslist except the front tires I purchased from a tire shop here in town.

Re: 71 C30 dually restoration

I had to make these perch's or saddles for the bags to sit between i originally wanted to go with bags that could hold 10,000 lbs a piece that where twice as big as these and they wouldn't have needed the perch's but i went with the the bags that hold 5,000 lbs a piece so this is where i'm at so far i drove the truck for the first time since the start of the build i took it to San Diego hydraulics and their going to mount the repo sneeker wheel lift unit to the frame so i should have it back in a week or to so i can finish the bed.

Dude your truck is freakin' SICK!!! Love the super singles in the back and the rims you picked. I can't wait to see it all done. Need to speed up the process!

Re: 71 C30 dually restoration

So the wheel lift is a good fit the boom drops and folds like it should so now the shop will connect the head and hydraulic clutch pump and I should be picking it up Friday .

Re: 71 C30 dually restoration

Thanks Slow-1 this is something I've been wanting to do for almost 20yrs I'm glad I waited until now because if I would hsve done it in the 90s nobody was doing LS swaps then, but yeah it's a pretty cool truck.

Re: 71 C30 dually restoration

Thanks Rambler I'm really happy with the results so far< but as far as the TV shows I'd have to pass if ever approach by one, I've been in the biz 20 years and have too much respect for it and the way these TV shows have watered down the biz making it harder for us to make a living(there are other things that have lead to this as well) I would hate to be around another 20 years to see how the new guys will have it, its pretty sad.
