Can you tell if this steering gearbox was changed or needs flared fitting adapters?
I just installed a new power steering return line on my '70 K10 steering gearbox because it was leaking at the fitting, to find out it leaks again. Pressure line seemed to be OK. After removing the line it looks like the steering gear may not be set up for the flared fittings like my hoses. It seems like there is a step on the internal brass fittings and not flared. I'm wondering if someone may have changed out this steering gear. I have seen where there are fitting adapters used for later model steering gears. Can you tell by these pictures if that is the case here? I tried to search but came up unsuccessful.

Looks like it's set up for flare lines to me. But I bet the top line in the bottom picture is going to leak. The flare fitting inside appears damaged.

Looks damaged by an incorrect fitting that was previously installed

The top fitting doesn't leak, it's the bottom one that does. I don't believe that they are flared inside.

Here is a link with a picture that clearly shows the difference between a "flare" fitting gearbox and an "o-ring" gearbox.
You have a "flare" gearbox. http://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series...aw-ps-box.html |

Re: Can you tell if this steering gearbox was changed or needs flared fitting adapter
Then why won't the flare fitting seat? The mating surfaces are definitely different. When I put the hose on it's loose and doesn't fit like a flared fitting. The fitting in the gearbox is flat and kind of squared off like it should have an O-ring in it. Something is missing here and its just not right. With brand new lines it should seat if they are the proper fittings. I will try to post some better close up pictures.
