Headlight cans?

In a 4 headlight setup the cans that hold the lights have notches cut out of them that should correspond to the tabs on the headlight....at least I assume thats the whole idea behind the tabs on the bulbs and the notch in the can?

I was doing the halogen light upgrade today and the tabs on the bulbs do not line up with the notch in the light can....so whats up with that or does it even matter?

I could cut new notches I guess.

What year truck and grille you have?

What brand of headlight did you use?

2 or 4 lights?

I do alot of the H4 conversions, installing the newer housing in the old buckets. I normally have to enlarge one of the tab slots in the bucket for the headlight to sit right.
I am doing a change over on our '65 LWB and have to do the same thing.

I have no idea what year, but apparently those "clocking tabs" changed location over the years.

As a side note, and sure you are aware- make sure to upgrade to a relay circuit for the headlights after the conversion, if you haven't already to help protect your headlight and dimmer switches.

I did a harness upgrade from the guys at Coachworks....that was the easy part.

Thanks for the info....guess i'll spend the day with a level, a sharpie pen and a dremel tool.



Later the same day.................. Piece of cake to do, just some cutting and snipping.

Now when one of these bulbs burns out and I have to replace it, I hope the tabs are in the same place on the new buld and I don't have to cut more notches in the light cans.
