Hearing thumping noise from radiator mount

So I've heard it a couple times. A thumping noise on my front clip of my truck. At first I thought it was the motor but yesterday I narrowed it down to the radiator support. I had did a frame up on this truck about four years ago but this is really the first time I've gotten to work on it. Well I think the core support is sitting directly on the frame. I did every but the body work on the truck and I think the body man put it together wrong. Does anyone have any pictures of how they go together? I will try and take some pictures tomorrow. I saw how the bolts go together on the LMC website and I doing think mine's correct.

Re: Hearing thumping noise from radiator mount

I can't tell what year truck from the pics, but 67-68 used one style of mount and later used another. You may have gotten a kit that had the opposite style of mount. Most kits I saw for a long time had "67-72 body mount kit" printed on them when they were actually for 69-72.It doesn't look right to m though I'm no expert.Maybe your body guy just shimmed around what he had to get it to work?

Re: Hearing thumping noise from radiator mount

Those mounts should have one bumper above and one below. They "mate" together in the frame hole to center the support. It apopears you have the "early" style mounts, and your support is sitting directly on the frame..

I am at work or I would run out to my 1972 GMC and snap a pic of mine. If no one has a pic up by this afternoon... I'll get one for ya.

Re: Hearing thumping noise from radiator mount

Ok im a little pissed. I did a frame off on this about four years ago. I havent had much time to work on is because shortlynafter i got it togaether i bought a house and you know the story. I am not sure how i missed this but these mounts were just dangleing there. They look like to old body mounts. I did all the mechanical work but the body guys put the radiator support on. These guys were hacks. I also found a 1-2 inch piece of rust on the inner fender. This car has been garaged and onlynin the rain once. I think i may be sending and angry email tomorrow.

I cant beleive it took me this long to figure this out. I always wondered why my grill was so tight to my bumper.

Anyway where is the best place to get the raditor mounts. I saw somewhere that LMC doesnt sell the correct ones.
