Alum grill cleaning
So i havent contributed much here and i came across something i think worked good and wanted to share. I recently bought a plating kit to redo some bolts. It came with something called Autosol Metal polish. I tried it on a spare alum bezel i had and it came out good. So i decided to go ahead and do my grill and the bezels. My grill wasn't too bad to start with and this stuff made it look pretty good. It didnt come with any instructions and all i did was put some on a lint free rag and just polish it. Not hard at all took like 2 hours. My grill is a driver quality anyhow and now it looks a little better. Heres a few pics. I used gloves to keep my fingers from soaking up the polish. It has a smell of maybe mineral spirits. It dries like wax a little and then i used a clean rag to wipe any leftover residue. Simichrome polish might be similar, not sure i dont have any of that stuff. Check it out.

Wow, very nice!!
The biggest problem with the aluminum grills is that the clear anodizing wears out and the grill takes on a dull, cloudy look. That polish really did a nice job. I'm going to have to get some of that and try it on my grill.

once you get a polish on, can you have it re-anodized, or do you need to remove the old anodizing first? Does the polishing you are doing remove the anodizing?

Im not totally sure on that. I assume the anodize needs to be removed then polished and then re-anodized. Someone with more info should be able to say more definitively.

Someone on here was using oven cleaner to remove the anodizing, it only took 5 minutes as I remember, then rinse well and polish...

get an oven cleaner that has sodium hydroxide, it will remove the anodization. used it on my 63 grill. Check out the link below
