67 C30 rear drum removal ?

Ok being new to this how does the rear brake drum come off so I can check shoes and replace wheel cyls? Maybe this is basic but new to me...sorry. Does that cap thing with the 6 bolts need to come off? thanks

Big learning curve ahead of you.

First thing to do is download the service manuals if you don't have them. Then read up on the brake and axle sections.

You are right in that the axle shaft does need to come out of the housing then the outer axle bearings. This allows the hub/brake drum assembly to be slid off the housing. The parts are heavy and the axle bearing lock nut is torqued to 175 lb-ft. The hub oil seal is easily damaged during servicing too. It would be best to have some help the first time through.

x2, get some help the first time like Tim says.. not that hard once you have seen it done....

It takes a special socket to get the lock nuts off and back on. You can get it at most parts stores.
