Re: need a little help
My '63 did.
It had a 230 I6 from the factory and I swapped in a small block. I used the factory perches in the factory installed location and used v8 motor mounts. Greg.

Re: need a little help
Worked on my 66, removed 6 cylinder and extensions off the mounts and dropped in small block V8. HEI distributor is close to firewall but does clear no issues

Re: need a little help
When I was sorting this out some good soul sent me this picture...
Left is six cylinder (not 292) Middle set is V8 Right side set is GMC On the 62 I went from a front mounted 235 to a side mounted 283. rg |

Re: need a little help
Those in the pic are for the '67-'72 trucks.
Quote:
With the '63-'66 trucks, the 230/250 I6's and the small blocks use the exact same motor mounts and the motor mount brackets on the frame (perches). The engines that do use different motor mounts are the 292 I6 and the GMC V6's. The 292 uses the same motor mounts as is used from '63-'72, but the location is offset . The right side is farther forward than the left side. The GMC V6 motor mounts are completely different than the ones for the Chevy engines.

Re: need a little help
since I posted I`ve pretty much figured out the v8 had to go in the same location as the 6 cyl. I put a 350/350 combo from the blue 72 Cheyenne that I parted recently into a 65 truck. I used 67-72 small V8 stands in the front frame holes. this put the engine too far forward. the bolt holes for the trans cross member are off by about 4", and the water pump is in the fan shroud.
captainfab, you answered my next question. why 2 sets of holes ?. I didn`t think about the 292 or V6 |
