Greatest Craigslist/Swapmeet finds

Not sure if this has been done before but I was wondering what is your guys greatest craigslist, swapmeet or the best score on something for our trucks you have found. Me I found a Nos 69-70 Chevy grille on craigslist for $125 but I had to wait all day till I got off work. Thought for sure it would be gone but gave him a call after work and he he still had it. Score! So whats your guys best score?

Re: Greatest Craigslist/Swapmeet finds

The night before last I came across a pair of Classic industries rear 4" lowering springs like new for $40. Jumped on them quick. Earlier that day I picked up a used chrome front bumper for $15 with a couple small dings.

BTW great grill I would have been all over that if it were in my area.

Well mine was a little different....it was a wrecking yard find.
I was fortunate enough to come across this backroad, backwoods autowrecker who specialized in wrecking old heavy duty trucks and equipment.
I went in there looking for a factory tach set up for my truck....and I left with (16) of them...LOL.
I got 'em all for a total of $300 all in (about $15-20 each). I still laugh at that day and I still have some of those units left!!
Needless to say, I have a factory a tach (and vacuum) in my '72...and my previous 3 69-72's.
All Good

.....now, to think of my best swap meet finds...hmmm.

Re: Greatest Craigslist/Swapmeet finds

$5 original GMC hood letters from eBay. PO painted them red and I broke the C trying to remove/ strip them. No need to strip them now so I stripped the grille instead.

Smile Re: Greatest Craigslist/Swapmeet finds

Here's a few other swap meet deals that I recall:
-Complete factory power steering set up for a '64-'66 Chevy 1/2 ton for $15.
-Mint Factory tinted sliding rear window for a '67-'72 for $25
-Complete factory chrome pod (console mount) vacuum gauge for a mid-60's Olds Cutlass for $10 (not truck stuff...but a great deal)
-2 (good) Quadrajet carbs for $5 each (1 for a 72 B.Block chevy 1/2 ton and the other for a '71 K5 Blazer SBC)
.....don't get me started guys!!! LOL
all Good

Re: Greatest Craigslist/Swapmeet finds

Bought an old wire egg crate full of old carbs at a yardsale for 10 bucks. Took it to the Portland swapmeet and found out I had 3 raree single barrel carbs off a tri power set up don't remember ford dodge or Chevy but got 400 bucks for them. In the same crate was a Holley 4barrel carb that everyone kept picking up and looking at the numbers. First offer for it was 100 bucks swich was ay s more than an old crusty Holy was worth. I said no and he walked away, thinking I messed up I waited it out and hoped for the best. Figured I could take the Damn thing home and still feel good on the 10dollar purchase. Guys kept looking at it and all seemed interested, I finally got one of the guys to tell me what it came off. Now I'm not a ford guy so I have forgotten exactly what the carbs code matched but it was off a certain year off a cobra jet mustang engine. I sold it for 300 and was told later I sold it to cheap..
I love buying and saleing some times I win other days I dont. That time I won

WOW! That was a great find!!!!

mgkgmc....that grill was a smoking deal too!

I would have been all over either of those deals!

My best deal is not truck related...but I'll tell ya anyway...my wife wanted a new sewing machine and she took me to the place to show me the one she wanted. They didn't have it in stock so I told them to order her one. It took a couple of months to arrive and I wrote them a check for $1600.00....don't know what happened but they never sent the check through...got the machine for free...wife was quite pleased.

Re: Greatest Craigslist/Swapmeet finds

Mine also is a little different.. but I came across this truck one day driving around with my dad, so we stopped and talked to the old woman who had it...who GAVE it to me.. Yes, for free. So I'd say this is one of the best deals I've ever had.

Re: Greatest Craigslist/Swapmeet finds

I bought a freshly recovered and restored set of buddy buckets about a year ago. Perfect, new black cover, perfect metal, all the pieces, not cut up, perfect! $300! Ad said seat for old truck. I called him and he described them as black buckets. went and looked at them. When he took the cover off, I heard angels sing. I told him they were worth 3 or 4 times what he was asking. He asked what I was gonna do with them. I told him about my truck and he said they were mine for $300, if I picked them up with my 69. One of the best rides I've ever taken it on.

not really truck related but the profit went into my truck....I found a little Kubota diesel tractor with a finish mower and a 4 foot bush hog. Got it all for a thousand dollars and sold it for 2600 later that day...

Re: Greatest Craigslist/Swapmeet finds

Know a guy who was a little late on a BMW deal. A lady sold a very nice BMW for $100 a few hours before my friend got there. She said her husband had left her a month earlier and then called her a few days ago and told her "Sell the BMW & send me the money". So that's what she did.

That was over 20 years ago, but it was still a deal back then.
But like a fool, I sold it for $300 a few months later and thought I really did good.
