what am i Getting myself into.

hi fellas i am in the very begining stages of a new project (like i need another one) the new "dream" is i have a 68 chevrolet c-30. it was factory a motorhome. Ugly i may add. first thing to go was that ugly motorhome. Next was the wrecker box. i always loved them old tow trucks and i figured hell i can bring more junk home if i have my own tow truck. it is a what i believe a 1965ish A&W wrecker body was made in Hazel Park Michigan. wish i could find out more about that company but no infomation seems to be out there. anyway back to the truck. it was powered by a 292 and a cast iron 4 speed. well untill 3 nights ago. i sold the motor and working on selling the trans as well. the truck has to be shorten 2 foot between the cab and rear axle to fit the wrecker bed. then i got a smoking deal on a cummins 12v and a getrag 5 speed. now to make this frankinstin truck work? anybody have any advice? i would like to keep as much of the truck factoryish? like using behind the seat tank and things like that. think itll fit without to much trouble? trying to keep it on a lower budget with out skinping on workmanship as a college student it can get tough. thanks fellas for any and all input
