Rochester idle adjustment

I have a new Edelbrock brand rochester carb I bought years ago and right before they discontinued them. The Chevy parts guy I knew at the time said these were better carbs then the typical Holleys most people were buying. ANyways it and my new crate motor our now running pretty good but the idle is a little high. It actually sounds about right but when I shift the tranny I really need a lot of brake to keep here from taking off, which way is too annoying.This brings me to my question, I went to turn down the idle but it was already at its limit. I cant figure out any intake leaks. I am not using the PCV system if that makes a difference and the thing has about 8 or so vacuum ports but their all plugged except for one that doesn't seem to have any vacuum anyways. Is this normal or what should I try. I am at a disadvantage because I am saving up for new gauges and right now all I have is idiot light gauges so no Tach. Are those air fuel meters good for maybe this and other adjustments I may need to do in the future?.

Look inside the secondaries and make sure the throttle blades are not open.

Even if you turn your primary throttle blade (idle) adjustment screw all the way out, you can still have a fast idle if the secondaries are open even a little bit.

Where's the throttle return spring?
THere's a high idle screw bottom front passenger side also. It could be holding it open.
No pcv! Ugly oil leaks in your future!
The one vac port you don't have plugged is an air vent for the vapour canister if you use one.

The return spring is on there, but I did change it out since the pic with a new one, but your right on with the pass. side adj. screw. I found that the other day and that solved it. Thanks. But since its the high idle screw how should that be set in regards to the normal idle adj on the d.s.? What I did was turn the pAss side one it down until it was a little too low, then I turned up the D.S. screw until it was idling right. I guess I should read up on this carb in general.

THe high idle screw doesn't come in to play until the choke is working.

where are you pulling your vacuum advance from? doesnt it usually come from the vacuum port on the lower front right of the carb?
