wiper motor wiring issue
hey guys, I haven't found an answer to this issue in the forum: My wipers weren't working so I pulled it and tested it, it works fine. So I figure it's in my wiring. I cut and rerun all the wires except the power wire and it still wouldn't work. So, I cut the yellow power wire and connected it to the open cig lighter spot on the fuse box...they work! however, when i went to reconnect the wiper arms to the motor, when I touched it with a screw driver, it sparked and the motor began running when the screw driver made contact. I'm no electrical guy, so I'm just doing what I can. Can someone help me fix this correctly? Hard to drive here in Oklahoma with the storms and no wipers. Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: wiper motor wiring issue
Make sure you ground the wiper motor to the sheet metal. And connect the yellow wire back to the wiper fuse. I think the cig terminal is hot with the key off and you don't want that because when you grounded the motor it completed the circuit and took the place of the switch and completed the ground. The switch makes and breaks the ground side of the motor not the hot side.
Stay safe out there and hope you and yours are all OK.

Re: wiper motor wiring issue
Thanks for the info, yeah we're all safe, just a lot of wind damage. Which fuse is the wiper fuse? All of the labels are rubbed off on the fuse box and the photos/diagrams I found on Bing are either too blurry to see or for a newer model of truck. thanks again.

Re: wiper motor wiring issue
Not to be a know it all but you need to invest in a volt meter or test light in the least and some jumper wires andnot start cutting wires right off the bat. You will appreciate it later.

Re: wiper motor wiring issue
That fuse box diagram did the trick. All working now. Thanks again.
