67 C10 body on 76 K20 frame?

I am putting a C10 Chevy body on my 4x4 76 Chevy 3/4 ton. I was just wondering if anybody out there has done this. My questions are, did the body bolt right up? and what modifications need to be done. Any input on this matter will be a great help. Thanks

I don't think anyone here had done it...but I could be wrong. Consider it a miracle if the body just "bolts on" without some modification...they are two completely different styles.

Good luck and keep us posted as you go!

yeah I know, but I don't think much has changed on th 4 wd frames. I talked to a friend of mine ( he is a bodyman ) and he says it will bolt right up. But, I don't think he has actually seen it done. I have the 76 stripped down to nothing but tranny/transfer case, frame, and cab. So, I hope he is right. otherwise it is going to sit in the grove for a while till I get a good body

It doesn't bolt right up, talk to member Mudder67 on this board, his 67 is on a late 70's chassis.

I am 100% sure it won't bolt up. Body mounts are different and frames are different. I will definitely require some fab work. In addition, the 73-87 frames grew at least 2" longer than the 67-72's.

Been there, done that!
'73-up frames are "stepped" under the cab, where '71-back frames are flat. Rail width is the same, but wheelbase is 3" (IIRC)
longer. I did my '67 on a '74 K-20 frame, and just "leveled" the frame from the rear of the "dip" foreward. I used a section of the original '67 frame. Kinda like "stacking" frames, but only on the front half, if that makes any sense! Creates an instant 5 1/4" body lift. the bed will stay at near normal height in relation to the frame. I just used the '67 cab mounts and frame tabs. You can "juggle" the cab placement fore and aft a LITTLE to get a better wheelwell/ tire fit, if you are running large tires. Just watch your dist. clearance. I run a SM465 4-speed behind a 350SB in mine, and the clutch linkage was a little bit of a challenge, but, if you are good at fabbing stuff, it shouldn't be a problem.

After finishing mine, a buddy did the same thing to his '72 ,only with a K-20 suburban frame and an auto. LOTS EASIER!!! they aren't "stepped" like the pickups!! It only required using the '72 frame tabs, and a small amount of "shimming" to get it level.
Bed gap is the big problem. I run a flatbed, just scooted up closer to the cab and cut the frame at the rear. My buddy torched the factory rear spring perches, and moved them foreward, along with custom shock mounts, shortened driveshaft, etc.

I'll try to get pics of mine, but my buddy sold his this spring.
I can get measurements, pics, etc. if you really want to tackle it!!

Mike

Mike, that would be great if you would provide me with the info on the swap. I still haven't decided if I want to tackle it or not. But, with your pictures and help it might inspire me. I really do want to do it but...... don't know if I will have the time and patience. Any pics or information you have can be sent to fourdawgn1978@yahoo.com
THANKS in advance for hooking me up with the info

Westley

No problem, Westley.
Glad to see I'm not the only one whose a glutton for punishment! LOL!!
Went out this afternoon to snap some pics and the digi needs batteries! (kids birthday) I'll get some info and pics tomorrow afternoon.
It really is alot easier with a 'burb frame, but I needed a good, solid "mule" for the farm, and I just used what I had laying around at the time! LOL! It's been a real good truck, for what it was built for. What I liked about the "built-in" body lift part, was I didn't have to go with the "wobbly"aftermarket spacers, or any fender/ suspension mods to run my winter tires! (35-12.50's)
Also, it worked out well with the cab I had. LOW HUMP cab, shifter is just the right height to keep it a low hump!!

Mike

Here's some pics to get ya started!

Yeah, I know........it's a real PIG!! LOL!
But, keep in mind it has given 9-10 years of GOOD (HARD) service on the farm and on the road!!
I use it for EVERYTHING! And it catches all the IL. salt in the winter! Plus the occasional fencepost!
