MAJOR Scores from 2 days at the wrecking yards Glide out spare tire carriers and GMC

As many of you know I sell 73-87 Chevy/GMC parts for a living and spend much of my time at the wrecking yards. I find good things here and there but nothing like I found in the last 2 that's right 2 days! I must be living right. Here are a couple pictures. There is more stuff too. This is just the best.

Re: MAJOR Scores from 2 days at the wrecking yards Glide out spare tire carriers and

I come across all that stuff at my (2) local pic-a-part yards and pass.
The fender emblems I see all the time. Lots of GMC stuff lately
3500, 2500 C30 crap is everywhere.
Those things are worth something?
Who would have thought/.

That's cool!
I pull all the emblems I find too. The counter guy always asks me how much I get for them on ebay. Still can't convince him I just hang them up around the garage.

Coolest ones I've got are the grill GMC & fender badges from a 5500 early 60's dump truck.

It is never a good idea to let the yard guys know you are selling stuff. The prices will go up. I have experienced it.

OK, I must admit I don't do a ton of work on my squarebody, but how does the swing out spare carrier work, and what years did it come on?

I have been very happy with the parts I have found lately. The good thing in Phoenix is that once the temperature hits 100 degrees the competition for parts goes WAY down! There are very few of us committed enough(STUPID and maybe should be committed) to spend time in the wrecking yards in the summer where temps reach 130 degrees and up with radiant heat from all of the cars.

There is a pull lever(handle) on the right side. You pull down on it to release the tension on the carrier. Once the tension is released the carrier and tire are unhooked on the right side and the spare will slide out from under the truck on the carrier. I hope this information helps you.

I am not sure on the first year these came out but the first one I found was on a 1978 GMC and I have found them on trucks up to 1989. I posted the details on how they work as well.

Southern Nevada Pic-A-Part
2 locations.
One in Henderson and a much larger location in North Las Vegas. Out by LVMS
Both are 100% paved and usually have at least one english speaking staff member on duty.

Another bad thing about living in Massachusetts is you can't find old squares in a bone yard. At least none I am aware of. You guys out "west" are lucky.

Yep. Me, too.

I used to get the "good guy" price at one PnP until the Owner caught wind of what I was doing.

Mine has the threaded post that you unscrew and the spare rack drops down. It's real fun trying to do that since the threads are always covered in road crap.
