Front fenders
Ok I have what might be a dumb question...
Is there any difference in fenders from 1973 to 1980? Referring to original fenders or nos fenders. Thanks Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Front fenders
No, same 73-80. LMC parts catalog serves as an excellent reference for questions such as these BTW

Re: Front fenders
Actually there was several...orginally.
Left 73-75, 76-77, 78-80 Note: The windshield washer bottle holder/type was differant Right 73-74, 75-80 Note: The Jack holder/placement was differant And while we are talking fenders 81-91 are as follows... Left 81-87 #15559311 Left 88-91 #15614467 Right 81-87 #15615335 Right 88-90 #15571642 Right 91-91 #15614468 Differance are 81-87 have holes for the fender emblems, 88-90 have no emblem holes as the emblem got split between the door and behind the door. and 91 RH has no emblem holes, but has the provision for a radio attenna. NOTE: These are service replacement part and numbers. The factory also had differances betwen with or without side trim as fenders with trim required holes for attachment. Re: Front fenders
Where can I get these fenders? I looked at LMC and couple others. The fenders are not that bad. But, the shipping is equal or more than the fenders. Are junk yards a worthwhile option? Seems to me they would be rusty too. the outside generally looks OK, But the inside where the inner mounts is rusted on most of them. Same as mine. thanks

Re: Front fenders
Junkyards are a worthwhile option sometimes you can find some really good ones, just have to take you time to check it out. I've found numerous parts for my truck at a junkyard that I still need to go get. But to answer your question junkyards can be worth it.

Re: Front fenders
Avoid aftermarket if possible, try and find good used fenders from the west coast or the south. Or NOS fenders if you have the $$, If you must buy aftermarket, try a vendor on this site, or your local body parts supplier in the phone book.
I have yet to find a good used fender in a junkyard in my area, at least 73-80 anyway. 88-91 are common but the older ones are usually rusted out OEM, or dented and rusty aftermarkets. You may get lucky and find a southern truck in the junkyard I suppose, but don't hold your breath. -Sam

Re: Front fenders
If you order $1000 from LMC they will ship fenders and such for free.

Re: Front fenders
Thanks for the fast replys! I'll see what the members have available. Appreciate the feedback on aftermarket body parts too. The word China shows up too often when you find out were they come from, and the quality the their steel makes me nervious.

Re: Front fenders
Now i just had a thought, the RH fender with antenna, if replacing could be a nice alternative to the windshield "in-tenna" that never picked up that well.

Re: Front fenders
If you live in a metro and still listen to "over air" radio you really don't need any more than the windshield antenna.
If you don't have satellite radio (Sirius) and live in a rural area then you really ......is behind the times. The prices have come down so low even a .............caveman could afford one.

Re: Front fenders
I only say that because I have been keeping my eye out for a clean set of fenders for the past six months. Found some but not worth jumping yet. Mine (L&R) have some cancer on the lower corners |
