Painting with metallic paint

Painting my 67 chevy sometime this week and i was just wondering if anyone had tips and advice for painting with metallic paint, thanks for the help

i always put 3-4 ballbearings in the paint cup to help keep the paint mixed good and shake to keep the metallic is suspension

My advise is to avoid single stage metallic unless you've got talent.

okay never thought of that before, how much over lap would you recommend because i have heard that metallic paint is easy to tiger strip

Good call.
You can concentrate on laying metal even and deal w/ gloss later.

With single stage you are balancing glitter and gloss at the same time; you wanna mist but if you do then may have to break out the buffer.

Lots of good advice in the paint and body forum. Not as many viewers but you will find some good pointers.

Few thinks I like:

Hold gun working distance from test panel. Horizontal pattern. Squeeze trigger breifly. Verify coverage same from left to right. Squeeze till runs. Should run same time left to right.

Must mix metal frequently like cdowns said. I'll give cdowns good idea bearing mix a go next time.

Except for touchup I like fluid flow adjust set wide open. If choke fluid flow too much spray quality will suffer.

Thanks found alot of useful advie in the paint forums, just had on last question, all the panels are bolted on the truck are you supposed to walk the lenght of the truck while paint then go back, on paint a panel at a time

Much easier to paint a panel than entire vehicle. Make sure you have same color substrate and enough color coats or else mismatch. I try to walk at even (not slow) pace for proper coverage when spraying vehicle.

I do mine in sections/panels. Always keep a wet edge, stir it frequently, make sure you give it enough time to flash between coats, otherwise you will be using way more paint than you need to. on the final coat I hold the gun about 18" away and give the entire panel a "mist" coat to get the metallics even and it will help with tiger striping. It is very important that you do this.
