splined wiper knurls

Ok I've looked just about everywhere for a couple of splined wiper knurls for my 1950 3100 Does anybody know here might I can find them?

Mine came from Jim Carter and they were called wiper pivots or wiper transmissions.

I have the transmission arms, I was looking for just the knurled part between the shaft and wiper arm. Hoping I don't have to buy new arms to get the knurled adapter.

I believe, like most manufacturers, they come complete. Mabey have them machined locally? Or used?

When I was looking it seemed that the shafts you want come with and are attached to the arms.

Classic Parts have a set but the shafts are attached to the arms.

Are you missing yours or are they seized?

Were your's damaged or ?? I didn't know that the knurls came off easily.

I didn't look at the ones I have last night to see if they come apart easily.

When I removed my standard vacuum wiper motor on the 50 and installed an electric motor, I found that the knurled shafts were solid and seized.

I removed them and secured the wiper arm in a vice with the shaft sticking up. I used heaps of CRC lubricant spray and a pair of multi grips to free up the knurled sections.

Went nice and easy and they loosened up and now spin freely and work perfectly.

This is of course no good to you if yours are actually missing but might help of they are seized.

yea the knurls are missing. I have both arms/transmissions, with the shafts connected to them. Guessing the splined knurls might have been stuck in my old wiper arms that got recycled? Anyway good news is I finally found a couple places to get some that I think will work. Specialty power windows has some .5 OD x.25 ID with a set screw to hold them onto the shaft. You can get them from Yogies too, and Mac's in Lakeport NY has some for ford Thunderbirds called wiper pivots but they don't give dimensions for them on their website.

All of the ones I have experience with were riveted to the shaft. When the rivet loosened the wipers would not goe full circuit or park correctly. Since the knurled portion is pot metal brazing did not work as a fix; I ended up getting replacements from the wrecking yards. Over the years I have collected spares for the truck and my Chevelle. It sounds like the new replacements are better designed? I think the knurled head/shaft assembly is the same for most GM applications in the 50's to mid 60's, the difference was the arms that went back to the motor and the attachment bezels.

I'm pretty sure that Orrie is correct on that. You may have several years to pick from as far as the knurled piece goes for sourcing them.
