Under Dash Pic request!

Hi folks, I am just starting to run my AAW Classic update kit in my K10 resto project. The first step in the instructions tells me to run the harness under the dash in the stock location with the stock fasteners. One problem: I cant remember how the heck it went, or how it was attached! IF anyone could drum up some photos of the stock wire harness routing, that would be great. Thanks

Re: Under Dash Pic request!

Its been a LONG time since I pulled what wiring was left in my truck so this will be helpful. I plan on running the same AAW kit. Let me know how it goes!

Pardon my ignorance, but what does AAW stand for? I may need to do some rewiring in mine soon.

A quick Google search of "AAW Classic" brought up http://www.americanautowire.com/

Re: Under Dash Pic request!

There are / were some clips along the top of the dash cluster opening that my original wires are using to run over to the ignition.

I'll be getting my wires in a week or so and I can give clear pictures of old / new then.

My K10 is all original, I can try and get some pics this weekend if noone else has any by then.

I don't know how much detail you will be able to see since it is all assembled, but I can try!

Re: Under Dash Pic request!

I don't have any pictures but here's some advice. You need to get the steering column & parking break installed, then once you get the harness connectors to the right place and plugged in there will not be much in the way of hanging wires. It pretty much falls into place. There are a few tabs that hold the harness & I used a number of wire ties to bundle and secure were needed. AAW did a great job of putting this together and at the right lengths.

This^^^

I just finished my install & will get some pics up tonight.

I highly agree that you should get at least the pedal box in place. I am very pleased with how easy the AAW kit installed as far as the underdash components.

Re: Under Dash Pic request!

Ok, my logic was backwards. I was thinking of running the wires before the pedals and steering column were in my way. Still looking forward to some pics

Re: Under Dash Pic request!

I instaled the same kit in my rig last year but I got Barney style instructions on how to do so. I did try to take a few pictures but they were ineffective and I would have to pull half my dash apart to make the pics worthwhile. If I manage to find the diagrams, I can scan them if I find a scanner that takes the legal sized sheets.

Re: Under Dash Pic request!

Not the greatest in detail, but at any rate better than nothing!?

You'll see the steering column harness off to the left a bit. On the right side is the dash cluster plug, most of the wire seemed to run either right under where the the dash pad would sit right at the front lip (there are some metal tabs that hold the wire) or down on the inner piece of the dash (radio wires, glove box lights, etc.) there are also grounds that tie into these spots. Hope this helps.

Re: Under Dash Pic request!

Sorry I am so late with this.

Here is the AAW harness installed and mostly secured & routed.

The AAW is tough as the main underdash wiring comes stright up out of the fuse box.

Let me know if there are any specific questions.

Re: Under Dash Pic request!

Just to describe a little. Also a couple of points.

The main portion is routed under the cowl & up to the clip in the middle of the cluster opening.

I was a little disappointed that the wire length on the horn relay did not reach the original mounting point. I had to double side tape the new one just to the left of the headlight switch.

The lower bundle of wiring is the 6 additional circuits. Also in front of the duct are the 3 gauge connectors. One is gauge lights, one is specific gauges, the other is the wiring for an electronic speedo.
