Would you powder coat your core support?

I found a good one a while back and finally got around to having it sand blasted.





I can get it powder coated for next to nothing at my BIL's shop, so I'm really thinking of having it done. It probably needs a little fine-tuning on the sand blasting end of it, but I only had to pay $10 to get it to where it is now.

Mine is powder coated. It's super durable and looks good. Just make sure you do the right color cause its hard to change the color with powder

I did mine gloss black. It is very durable and it makes it look far better than paint. Careful about the antifreeze it turns lighter colors, like silver, white. I would also spend some time and delete the ugly wrinkles that are on top of the top of the support. If your going to all the trouble to powder coat you might as well.
I know the isn't a great shot of the core support but you can see the nice clean lines that deleting the wrinkles makes.

Think about grounds.You'll need to run wires or scrape new powder off to get good ones.Just something to keep in mind.

Yeah, I have thought about the grounding thing. And I've often wondered if anyone shaved those 'wrinkles' mentioned, too. I would want to practice that on a junk support, first, though.

I would do satin black, same as my frame and stuff. I think I'll see my BIL this weekend. I'll find out what he'll charge me. If I can swing it, I think I'll go for it.

Yes. I powder coated mine as part of the freshen up, along with little triangle brackets, hood latch, motor mounts, booster brackets, bumper brackets, frame, trailing arms, etc. I did just about everything that was black except the inner fenders.

Would you (have you done) your inner fenders as well? just worried bout the rocks hitting them from the inside. heard its hard to work with powder once its chipped?

I plan on powder coating those too, but doing line-x on the side towards the tires to keep the sound of rocks pinging down and because it should hold up pretty well.

I did everything under my hood including the inner finders, i say do it.

I went the same route, while I had everything apart I powder coated everything I could. The inner fenders I did a special coating called "wrinkle" black. it is a lot tougher than regular p.c. and it does not show any scratches from accidentally dropped wrenches while servicing your engine. Also if you have less than perfect inners this coating hides all of the dimples

There are 6500 different powders available currently. Candies, wrinkles, veins, you name it. Combine them with about 10 different clear coats from dead flat to full gloss and the possibilities are too many to count.

The wrinkle powder is great for making rough parts look smooth. Veins work well for that too and they add a bit more eye candy if you want it.

As far as the grounds go just weld in a bolt or a stud that you can attach to after coating so that you do not have to scrape coating off.
