Parking brake Cables for a '72 with a gm 14 bolt FF

I am looking for an idea on how one goes about the rear parking brake cables on a '72 C25 with a 14 bolt FF. I just pulled off my 14 bolt SF and found that the cables are push in on the SF but bolt on on the FF. I found cables, several times but they turn out to be too short each time. Are these something that I have to have custom made?

Re: Parking brake Cables for a '72 with a gm 14 bolt FF

Don Q, My '72 c/20 has a '90 14 bolt FF out of a 1 ton pickup. The backing plates are weird. They are both the same, not mirror images. The right side cable comes out the rear of the backing plate. The right cable is very long so that it loops around and goes forward on the left side of the truck. The two cables are side by side as they go forward along the left frame rail. It wasn't difficult to hook them to the stock intermediate cable. The pedal feels a little spongy, but the e-brake works well. I did mine 4 years ago, so I don't remember the details, but it was not difficult. Roy

On the '90, are the cables bolt on like on mine or the press-fit like on the SFs?

Don Q, My truck is not stored at my home. I am retired so we spend a lot of time on the road with our 5th wheel rv. My memory tells me that the cables are bolt on. If no one else responds to your post, I'll be glad to go look at my truck and confirm. Roy

I was at the boneyard looking for these cables and I found a few axles from the same time period as yours and they are the press fit. If I had found one of these before I bought mine, I would have used one of these instead. The cables I already had would fit. Now I am sort of stuck for where I can find a cable shop to have the cables made. I bought some that are supposedly for my truck but they are about 2" too short. I do thank you for your help, Roy.
