Starter engaging while driving?

So I replaced my starter on my 88 last week. I didn't notice the knock sensor wire wrapped around it and accidentally broke it off. I left it like that and havent had any problems. Except, under hard acceleration I hear the starter engage for no more than one full second and it stops. Why is this happening? How do I fix it?

Re: Starter engaging while driving?

Loose actuator wire at the starter rotating into the positive would be my bet.

X2 check and be sure all the wires are not touching and tight.

Re: Starter engaging while driving?

Ok so after having my dad ride with me and hearing it, its not the starter or a timing ping. It happens at about 2300rpm under 3/4+ throttle. It definitely is a grinding. Im clueless.

Re: Starter engaging while driving?

I once had the harmonic balancer rub on the front cross memeber.

Could you explain that to me a little more? There is an actuator wire? Which one is that?

Detonating. Fix/replace the knock sensor wire.
