Valve covers / twist on or push in rubber cap??

Tyrying to figure out what has what and what is correct. Some say 73 and up for the twist on metal oil cap and others say they have it prior to that from the factory.

My 72 is a Cheyenne with a 350/350 turbo with A/C and power brakes. It has the oil fill extention tube on the drivers side rear of the valve cover. The passenger side valve cover has a push in oil plug that say's "oil" on it. The A/c compressor covers it and it is not accessible to pull out and use as a fill location with the A/C compressor mounted. My A/C compressor is not on the truck now but it will be soon.

If your truck is factory, chime in and tell us what you have.

Re: Valve covers / twist on or push in rubber cap??

all the 3 71-72 chevy actrucks i last had// all had 3 holes in valve caovers // driver side rear had the fill tube near to brake booster . driver front was the breather that went to the air cleaner // passenger side rear had PCV goin to the carb base
i believe all 3 were factory correct as they all matched the assembly manuals and factory service manuals not to mention the owners manuals too

Re: Valve covers / twist on or push in rubber cap??

Here's a picture of how my 69 came from the factory. I know for sure. The holes were in the locations as cdowns states above, but prior to 71 there was no oil fill tube and, at least mine, came with the screw-in cap. It's a bear to get to to fill without a long funnel.

For the record, mine is a 69 CST/20 with 350, A/C and TH400. No emissions except the breather and PCV valve. It was built in Fremont in Dec., 1968, and sold new to me by a now defunct Chevy dealer in Yorba Linda, CA.

Maybe you can flip the cover so oil fill hole is in the front and use a slightly longer pcv valve hose?

Re. push on rubber caps. To my recollection I never saw stock factory engines with push on rubber oil fill caps. Only ones I saw that were rubber were the ones with aftermarket valve covers.

Disregard flipping it over. Just noticed it would be under the AC. Guess the funnel is bout the only way.
