FINALLY! Bought a 1969 tow truck

I am happy to be able to say that we bought a 1969 GMC tow truck yesterday! It isn't the nicest, but I'm happy to have it. It's a homemade bed, that they took quite a bit of time to build. It doesn't run, the wiring is shot, the passenger side leaf springs are completely broken in half, the front passenger side spring is broke, and it's missing a cross member on the frame. But for $300, I don't think it was bad. Plan is to put our shops logo on the door and sit it out front. At some point we will fix it, but now isn't the right time.

Re: FINALLY! Bought a 1969 tow truck

Here's the one we used to have, but the bed was beyond destroyed. The truck ended up witht the bed off and after a while of sitting, the bed ended up at the scrap yard the truck was sold.
This is the only picture we could find of it.

Its funny how to many people (obviously not the folks on this forum), your "new" truck looks like a piece of junk....but to me it looks like a piece of art.

Very Nice!

Your truck rocks! I'm with Southern Shaker, the patina/logo is very cool.

Re: FINALLY! Bought a 1969 tow truck

I am really jealous! I was telling a coworker earlier today how much I'd love to have a 60s or earlier tow truck. (but I also want a 4x4, flatbed dually, and suburban)

Does your truck have a 133" wheel base?

I'm not sure. Its a 1 1/2 ton. The glove box doesn't say, and neither does the title.

Re: FINALLY! Bought a 1969 tow truck

Cool truck. I think you got a good deal to. For $300 you could spin around and make $2000 easy. I the doors alone are worth $300. I would love to have one but the one I want is about a 48. Beautiful truck.
