Engine Identification
I bought a 1969 GMC K25 with a V8 but I know it's not stock. Can someone tell me how to identify it?

Re: Engine Identification
The "TL" suffix code come up with a 1957 265 2bbl.
Got any pics? Also get the number off the back of the engine on the flange the bellhousing mates to. Cast in numbers will be on the drivers side. Gary

Re: Engine Identification
I can post some pictures later, but the engine is so close to the firewall, that I can't see that casting number on the back.

Re: Engine Identification
Perhaps just shoot a pic of the pad. Those numbers are not making sense to me.
1966 was the last year for a Flint V8 to use the "F". They changed to a "V". No more two letter suffix codes after '68. The VIN wasn't used on all engines until 1968 and the "8Z512150" suggest it was used at the Fremont California plant which built El Caminos but again in '68 it should have been a "V1205TL" Is this a small block?

Re: Engine Identification
The suffix code has a K after the TL. So with code TLK and the 8 in the parcial VIN you have a 1978 truck motor. It's a 400cid, 175hp, RPO code LF-4, 4bbl Rochester carb, from a 10 or 20 series, 4wd truck. Originaly.

Re: Engine Identification
Thank you, Bruceman, the guy I bought it from said it was a 400, but I didn't know for sure. By the way, that's a big dog in your picture!
