C50 Pick-up Drill Sergeant

This is one of two C50 pick-ups that I am currently building. One is a 3/4 ton 4wd regular cab step side pick-up truck (Drill Sergeant) will be a light tan color with a light brown interior.

The other will be a 1 ton 4wd crew cab fleet side. Have not decided on a big block or a 12 valve cummins yet but will decided soon.

On Drill Sergeant I have had to make slight modifications to the firewall to change throttle from linkage to cable and to clear the valve cover on driver side. Here are some pics of both donor trucks- the red one is underway and is Drill Sergeant. The Blue will be a crewcab.

I really like those post '67 small back windows.

Do the right thing and go with a 12 valve.

Re: C50 Pick-up Drill Sergeant

Took care of 95% of the rust which was the driver side inner and outer rocker and the front corner. Which obviously had to be hand made because its a C50. After unsuccessfully removing a good floor pan out of another cab decided to go ahead and just make one. Will post pics tonight.

I hate having to remove spot welds off of a truck that was made on Monday.

Re: C50 Pick-up Drill Sergeant

I hate spot welds, period! Especially triple thick like the FREAKIN roof! You are now the official "How to do it better" builder.

Re: C50 Pick-up Drill Sergeant

First, to clarify, the front of the blue C50 will be going on Drill Sergeat which is the red cab. The cab of the blue will be the crew cab. (Hope that makes sense to everyone)

I have come to realize that most C50's have door to fender issues. This is because there is only one center body mount in the front. This picture shows the suspension mounting system that will also support the body on either side directly above the spring mounts. This should take care of fender to door binding.

To the left of the picture below is the stock fender length and to the right is what I am cutting it down to.

Still fit and re-fit body on body off, body on body off, over and over. But I'm getting closer to the look I'm looking for.

These are NOT the tires that will be on it. This will have 16.5 deep dish hubcap wheels and about 38" tall mud terrain similar to the ones on my crewcab.

Re: C50 Pick-up Drill Sergeant

This is Drill Sergeant's frame modification all necessary to retro the C50 body to a C20 frame. Significant changes had to be made to the front of the frame, not only to support the cab properly but also to support the 4wd suspension better. After all this is also going to be pushing snow.

Re: C50 Pick-up Drill Sergeant

Small window to big window conversion

I was going to leave it a small window because I thought it would look good with the step side. There was so much roof damage, inner and outer, that I decided to go ahead and replace the whole thing with a roof that accepts a headliner, has the cargo light and is in really good shape. These pictures show the process of the conversion as well as installing a clearance light skin. Questions just ask.
