Re: help looking for cam

Call the cam manufacturers and tell them every detail of your truck. They can spec a high efficiancy cam for you that will fit your needs.

Some info: four proven ways to get mpg. 1: smaller engine 2: small cam=small power 3: aerodynamics.( not in a truck). 4: lightweight.

Re: help looking for cam

Made by crane yes. It's not going to make a lot of difference. It's about the same as a factory cam. The lifters are melling and the surfacing on the bottom isn't to great so get some nicer ones if possible. I just installed a summit 1102 kit in my other engine but haven't run it yet.

Smaller will use less until you work the engine to hard to move fast enough to keep up. Try these

Re: help looking for cam

When I swapped a higher rpm, higher lift, higher duration cam to a more conservative cam, the hwy mpg remained unchanged. Both cams efficient at hwy rpm. I suppose mpg would respond to over drive w/ the milder cam.

The first five are good well. Remember though an engine is a combo. You have to change everything to make a combo that works good headers and a performer intake will help. Getting your timing set dead right will be good as well. A sharp tune on a carb that gives a good velocity helps. A 500cfm carb like a Holley will help low end and run great in the highway. A 700r4 with 3.42 gears will do good as well. After you do all that you may realize you spent more to get 18-20mpg than you would have for gas this year.

So you need a 50 state legal cam? That's c.a.r.b exempt and can pass smog?

yep i need a 50 state legal cam.
i have always passed smog with flying colors and i would like to keep it that way. but i think maybe lunati cam might be the way to go. i have a lunati in my 383 never had a issue with that.
