EEeeek, it's a Rochester 2SE
I am having a great time (supposed to be dripping with sarcasm) dealing with this carb. I got an 82 custom deluxe with a 250 six shooter. has a Rochester varijet 2se carb on it, and I can't seem to find what the problem is. I can start the truck and it idles fine, and even revs up fine while not in gear. When I go to drive it though, I have to ease into it or it chokes down. Once I get up to around 35 or 40 MPH, it starts to hucka-buck like crazy and sometimes dies. If it doesn't die, and I manage to get stopped, it will drive again if I ease into it. the truck has an EFI distributor and the EGR has a delete plate installed. New inline fuel filter installed and I removed the filter in the carburetor as suggested by a post I saw on this site in another section. Is there a direct replacement carb I could look for, or do I just need to put my soul up for bids on ebay to get this problem fixed?
Thanks, Jason |

Re: EEeeek, it's a Rochester 2SE
ok, so I have an update in case anyone else is interested. removed the fuel pump and checked it out, felt a little sloppy, so I changed it with a new one. truck ran a tiny bit better, so a quick call to a buddy, and I got a different varajet same 2se, but off of a motor that was running great until the camshaft let loose and came through the left side of the motor. Well looking at a truck that runs good with the same setup helps a lot! I got back on my truck and found that the vac advance was run with way too big a hose, and it was sucking air right at the carb. fixed that problem and then just had to block off a couple other lines that were not needed due to the egr delete. Truck runs like a raped ape now. well at least as much as a stock 250 can!
