Re: automatic steering column

I've been thinking about doing this to my '69 gmc for years. In fact, I have a parts truck with just about everything to do it. (it just hasn't been a priority)
The easiest way is to find a complete truck (67-72) and swap parts. You will need to remove the 3 spd bellhousing crossmember (riveted in place) and use one that mounts on the transmission. And swap steering columns and possibly driveshafts. If you use a TH350 trans (and I think 700r4), you will have to hook up a cable to the throttle. The TH400 trans uses an electric kickdown you'd have to run wiring for.
I think just about any year trans will work, but the column, linkage, and crossmember will need to be 67-72.

My information may not be 100% accurate. Hopefully somebody else can tell you anything I've missed.

Re: automatic steering column

I got a good used colum off of ebay for 100 bucks. I had to get the intermediate shaft as well as mine was a one piece column. Then bought the aftermarket shift linkage kit from LMC...

Works great... only thing I found is that the needle doesn't line up on "D" all the way...
