weather strip direction
While waiting for parts for my bed, I thought I'd look into installing my weatherstripping around my doors. I feel this to be a dumb question, but I just don't want to mess up cause it can be put on either way! and thank you as always!
So, is it: A)? Or is it: B)? (just doesn't look right)

Re: weather strip direction
You win a free ride in my truck! (if I ever get it on the road that is!lol)
Now I've got two answers here! or I'm confused which is my normal state of mind! Curved side goes towards the cab?? So that's a B answer? And Newfisher, you say the same? It just looks wrong for some reason~ I"m waiting on some more reponses, not that I don't believe you guys~ I just want an affirmative answer! Like, "it is B!" without a doubt~ I just don't want to have to pull it back off~ love ya just the same!

Re: weather strip direction
Simplest answer? It DOESNT go on the way it seems to. A leg of the weatherstrip gets "folded" when the door is closed to seal the gap. Probably not that much help but its how I remember.

Re: weather strip direction
I want you to know~ I almost installed it as "A", but my innermost brain said, "wait!", So, it's another B from Dan!

Re: weather strip direction
Looking at a 55 chevy first right now. It looks more like B than A.
It's hard to tell because the weather striping I'm looking at is very rotten but a portion of it looks the same. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: weather strip direction
And the answer is~ so far it sounds like "B". Well, I'm working on the sills of the bed right now anyway, so looks like tomorrow before I get to the weatherstripping.

Re: weather strip direction
The reason for why its so hard to tell is because the matirial you have is foam. If you had the rubber striping everything would be ok. I'm not even sure how it's suposed to be for sure because I am used to the late 40s early 50s trucks.

Re: weather strip direction
I think Orge has a picture in his tread, or answered the question for someone else with a picture. I don't know but remember the person said he installed it the way it logically looked like it should go and it was wrong and did not seal right.

Re: weather strip direction
It is most definitely "B". It just looks more correct the other way, but it won't seal if it's backwards. Putting it on backwards is probably the most common mistake made on these trucks.

Thank you all! Orrie, thank you for that link, and now I need weatherstrip retainers! argh! lol
Poncho, thank you too for the additional link! BTW, even though you installed yours in backwards, does it whistle or not seal at all? and of course thanks to Daze, Newfisher, Dan, Zach, Poncho, and Russell! and toto too! I now can start on my passenger side weatherstrip today! dne'

Re: weather strip direction
Actually city driving is no problem. At 70 mph on the highway it gets pretty noisy. I think that is what the subwoofer is for.

Re: weather strip direction
And that is why a lot of guys end up with air leaks and wind whistles in the doors. It looks better but doesn't work very well.

Re: weather strip direction
Denee007, I sure am glad you're a little ahead of me project wise, you're covering issues that I'd probably have issues with later. Thanks.
Rude Dude, good bit of info on the Brothers link. Looks like page 13 covers the right way for the weather stripping to be. "B" |

Re: weather strip direction
Thanks Jim! and to put a close on this~ "B" for sure. I understand now that I have installed it and see HOW it seals. It sure tightens the door up when its closed! I'm sure this is much easier to install with the door off~ definitely a little testy to install on the truck! lol
thanks to all and to all a big thanks! dne' Quote:
