MSD Ignition?

I've done some research into the MSD ignition boxes, I'm looking on some input of what I should go with I know for a fact I should go with 6 series, I'm determining which one to go with any input? Not extremely high compression motor probably 9:1 or possibly 10:1 (pushing it) and a large cam and that's all that's been done to motor present time.
Thanks for any input much help.

I'm going with a 6AL. they are pretty reasonable and cheep on craigslist or ebay

I went with the 6AL to specifically to get the rev limit feature.

I have a Mallory 6al box. Rev limiter with dials. It's ten years old but it works. My engine was more responsive and smoother down low

So 6AL sounds like the way go? What all has it done for you guys that have the MSD 6AL? Pros Cons? and What is install like. Thanks.

Well low end is smoother and crisper. Start up is easy. The install isn't hard either. You have like five wires to play with. A strong coil like a accel super complements the box good too. I don't like the msd since the use pills to control the rpm limit and the mallery had dials. Although I think the new digital versions use dials now and are stronger performance wise although I doubt one would notice any gains.

One thing to note is try and draw power from the most direct source possible if not just direct to the battery. I would say its a worthwhile upgrade on a car with a big cam and quick Revs and can get to redline rather quick in which case the rev limiter is a godsend in keeping your motor in one peice when your out having fun, you definitely don't have to hold back and watch your tach constantly

David unified ignition D.U.I. Has rev limiter boxes that are cheap and will let you have fun with less money down on a motor that's more towards street stock side.

Look into an msd e-curve distributor. I just installed it and love it. Totally lets you dial in the timing of the vehicle with how you have it built and style of driving. Has a built in limiter as well. I had trouble dialing in perfect timing with a mechanical dizzy. This e-curve made a world of difference. My truck is now 100% happy through its rpm range .

It uses three dials underneath. To tune the curve. You set your initial timing then you select your "mech" digital advance amount in 10* 15* 20* 25*. Then you can adjust the rate of the curve. It's a cool setup for people who don't want to play around with weights and springs. It features a 20* start retard and an rpm limiter.
