Driveshaft shortening
I'm doing TH 350 to 700r4 swap on my 1972 C 10. Can someone tell me how much the driveshaft has to be shortened or if there is a stock replacement? Thanks

Re: Driveshaft shortening
Measure your truck!
There's so many different ways to put an engine in these trucks that its mind bending. 6cyl mounts, v8 mounts, big block mounts, swap pass to drivers side mounts and a couple of different places on the frame to bolt them in. Take your old shaft to a driveline shop (both pieces if its a 2 piece driveshaft) with a tailshaft to center of rear joint measurement (tailshaft to center of carrier bearing for 2 piece) have them shorten and ballance your shaft. Its pretty cheap and you will have a shaft that you can actually use when you are done. If your old shaft was the correct length to start out with and you don't move anything else around it should need to be 2.5" shorter I believe. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Driveshaft shortening
I would suggest taking the truck with you so there is no margin for error.

Re: Driveshaft shortening
a 700r4 is 3 1/8 inch longer than a short turbo 350
turbo 350s were made in 3 differing lengths |

Re: Driveshaft shortening
I had mine cut at 2 1/2 inches but the only way to know for sure is to measure it yourself.

Re: Driveshaft shortening
A driveshaft from a 6 cylinder truck works with your motor in the forward location.
