another ccsb build

I picked up this crew cab early this spring from a customer of mine. She called me and said her husband was getting too old to drive and they wanted to sell the truck. I ended up getting the truck in exchange for some labor and after months of collecting parts I'm finally getting started on the build.

I haven't taken many pictures of the truck but here it is on the trailer the day I brought it home.

Re: another ccsb build

Motor is a stock 350/th400, interior is pretty beat up which didn't bother me since it will all be swapped out anyway. The body on the truck is actually pretty straight but the paint is shot, NO RUST, motor smokes a bit on startup and the tranny doesn't like to shift until its been warmed up.

A couple months ago I yanked the bed and picked up a fairly beat up short bed.

Re: another ccsb build

Like some of you guys money is always tight so I decided I'd try and flip a few trucks to help pay for my build. I bought this K10 for $700 cleaned it up a bit, put some color on it and make a pretty decent profit. Then a K5, a c30, another K10 and the most recent was a 91 K5, a few before and afters of the flips.

k10, ran great but wouldn't pass smog $650

K5 bad 700r for $700

The latest K5, bad head gasket for around $800
paint was completely missing on the other side

Re: another ccsb build

Plans for the truck are to convert it to 1/2 ton and bags so I started looking for a 1/2 donor. Came across a nice suburban on craigslist for $950, I kept the rally wheels, 454/th400, 12 bolt rear and parted out what I could and after scrap came out just over $470 positive Kind of feel bad about this one because the burb was in pretty good shape.

Re: another ccsb build

About a month or so ago I drug the crew cab to a friends shop to cut the frame. I know some of you guys don't like a straight cut so feel free to keep your comment to yourselves

quick shot while measuring everything 50 times and after its all welded up

Re: another ccsb build

I found a 4l80 on CL and dropped it off with my tranny guy about a month ago, he tore it apart and replaced a few worn out parts. I also bought a set of ported and polished oval port 454 heads, custom ground cam and a set of lifters from vortec pro in Co Springs. Guy was really cool to deal with and guaranteed me over 500/ft lbs of torque and at least 425hp out of the stock rebuilt bottom end if I bring it back once the motor is all re-assembled.

Work has been pretty crazy and haven't had much time to get anything done so I decided to just load the truck up on the trailer again to have the motor/tranny and a few other odds and ends finished up at a friends/mechanic shop

Nice build! I'm amazed at the rust free trucks you were buying and flipping. Very nice!

Not a whole lot to update but I did the motor pulled. Hopefully I'll be able to get the motor and tranny stuffed in the next week or two.

Re: another ccsb build

not much progress on the crew cab, motor and tranny are rebuilt, and the I hope to get to work on re-grearing the 12 bolt in the next couple weeks. I haven't had the motivation to do much with this truck lately.

I did pick up a pretty cool '80 c30 the other day. Motor was just rebuilt but needs wired up and a few odds and ends. Not sure if I'm going to hold onto this one or not. I'll probably put it up on CL and see if it sells while I put a few hours here and there into it.

Who doesn't love the cool 80's colors on the door

Ok no real progress on this truck because I've been undecided what to do with the suspension. I think I'm going to leave it static, $5k in air is just more that I want to spend. I was planning on selling my bucket to pay for the suspension but after driving it for several months I dont think I can bring my self to sell it.

After a few more flips I've saved enough $$ to order some new wheels and other parts though. I know everyone has them but I'm trying to keep this cheap and was thinking about some 20" coys C5. Cant seem to find much in the under $1500 range. Any suggestions?

Here's a couple of the most recent flips, I'll get some pictures of the progress on the truck in the next couple weeks. Hopefully I'll get started on this thing soon

Adam, check out the Ridler wheels also. The price on those is pretty sweet, and it is a nice wheel. Especially on a budget. I bought mine from Tommy Lee (ksbrktracer), and am in them for about $1300 with tires. The quality seems pretty decent, but in all fairness mine has moved about as much as yours in the last year.
