Carb boiling over still?
Hello everyone, i have an 86 c10 with a 4bolt 350 engine mild built edelbrock 600 carb, performer cam and intake. when the truck gets really warm, and its a fairly hot day out (say 30 degrees Celsius or warmer) when i shut it off for about 5-10 minutes it acts like its flooded. now i had posted a thread like this, all the answers were to install a carb spacer, I installed a Edelbrock 8711 Carb Spacer 1-Inch 4-Hole, this helped allot, and on any day colder than ~30 degrees it starts great, but as soon as its warmer, the carb is still boiling over? any further ideas and options to fix this? thanks

Re: Carb boiling over still?
I have insulated the fuel hard line going from the pump to the carburetor, but that did not help my hot start problem like you have. I did not install the carb spacer because I did not want to have the accelerator/throttle linkage disrupted as well as the tube from the air cleaner to the exhaust manifold. I have a stock 454.
This could be a "heat soak" effect on the solenoid/starter. I changed to a GM high torque mini starter and that did not fix the problem, but it did help some. I also installed a remote solenoid and dual start batteries. My solution - I just press the accelerator all the way to the floor when the engine is hot, and keep the accelerator pressed down until the engine starts, then let up about half way on the accelerator. Then the engine is running properly and you can drive normally. I have had two big block squares and they both had this problem. It is especially a problem in "HotZona." |

Re: Carb boiling over still?
Stock 454, aluminum intake, 675 Holley (Street Avenger), adding a 1/2" Moroso wood spacer helped a bunch.
I need to add one to the stock 307, aluminum intake, 600 Holley combo on my 50.

You might need a fuel regulator. Eddy carbs don't like more than 5.5 psi. And lower your float level an 1/8 inch.

another quick check, crack open your gas cap when it's warm out. If it goes "whoosh", venting is your problem. This test doesn't cost anything.
