Welding hood recommendation
Well I finally got a new welder. Built a new cart for it. Upgraded all my other welding equipment ( gloves, sleeves, jacket, pretty much everything) and now am looking a getting a new hood. I have a Lincoln hood thats so so, and a cheap Harbor Freight back up.
Ive been looking into Speedglas and Jackson. I like the design and specs Speedglas has more but the prices kinda suck! Are they worth the $400? Ive never used one that expensive so I wouldnt know. :/ What are you guys using and do you like it!?

Re: Welding hood recommendation
speedglas are nice they have good accessories.. masks, etc... tho they're too much for me.. jacksons usually have big windows which is nice.. i'd love to have a bigger window in my helmet..
i have a miller.. it's good never let me down, but as i said id love to have a bigger window and an external switch for grinding like some other lids have. it's annoying having to take it off to turn it to grind then put it back on.

Re: Welding hood recommendation
I was using a cheap HF helmet before - while it was worth the $40 I paid for it, I didn't realize what I was missing until I got the Lincoln Viking that I'm using now. Here are a couple of pics I snapped when I first got it. It's a really nice helmet, I just with it had an external knob on it to switch to 'grind' mode so you don't have to reach in the helmet when switching over. The dual range shading (6-9 & 9-13) is nice for when going from welding to using a plasma cutter or torch. I love the big screen on it and the headband is pretty comfortable.

Re: Welding hood recommendation
I just bought this guy a couple months ago. http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item....re&dir=catalog No complaints and definitely comparable to the Miller elite I used to use. Don't bother with the cheaper helmet you will keep finding stuff you don't like about them. I weld daily mostly over my head
