Need tire size help
I need help determining a good tire width. I came across a nice set of rims for my 71. The rims are 22's that are 8.5" and 9.5" wide. My question is what is an optimum width tire for these 2 rims? I was told 245 for the 8.5's and 275 for the 9.5's. I plan on running a 29 - 30 inch diameter tire. Any help would be appreciated.

Is a 265/35 wheel too wide for a 22 x 8.5" rim? I'll be running 275/40/22 tires in the rear.

General rule of thumb is tread width same or close to your rim width.
In your case the 22x8.5's are 9.5 inches wide. 265 tire is 265 divided by 25.4 equals 10.4 inches so quite close. Look around on tire rack for your intended tires. They'll have info on recommended wheel widths. It's free to play there. |
