Painted rims and black chrome lugs

I have been loving my newly found truck and I know that this year will not be the year the body gets any serious love.. right now I working on getting it to pass inspection from NYS and the Mrs... so new lights, fuses and a leaky gas tank was the first to be done for NYS and a new carpet and good cleaning to make the lady feel welcome. But the rims just make ache....there is not a lot of aftermarket choices for 8 luggers but to be honest I like the look for original steel so for a small amount i can have the rims sand blasted, painted black and I think it will look awesome but my concern is the lug nuts and axles,, I found a set of black chrome lugs that according to the seller on ebay should fit but will they really fit?? I don't trust autofitment guides (see link) but what to do with the axles.. do I just brush off the surface rust and blast them with rustoluem?? Should I replace the outer bolts and cap?? Any input or suggestions are always welcome..

Re: Painted rims and black chrome lugs

I just bought these and painted them yesterday for mine. Sprayed them Graphite metallic grey, the hubs black with chrome lugs and beauty rings.

Re: Painted rims and black chrome lugs

Just cleaned up the rust with a wire brush on the angle grinder, degreased and used rattle can paint (Rustoleum I think). Lugs were off my old alloy wheels, the tire store just reused those when they mounted the new tires.

Re: Painted rims and black chrome lugs

Hey Scott, an easy way to find out what size your lug nuts are would be to take just one of them off and go to your local hardware store and find a bolt that fits inside of it. Some places have the size guide with small sections of all-thread of different sizes so you can figure out what you've got. Once you know the size and thread count, you can order your lugs. You may need to know how far your lugs stick out from the rim surface, just in case they are longer then the lug nuts you're looking at.
