Tail Light Problem
Hope someone can help me out. I have a 1972 chevy step side pick up. My problem is that my passenger side tail light, with headlights on, looks bright like the brake is on even though brake is not on. Driver side is working like it should. When I look at the actual bulb and compare it to the working side, it looks like its backwards, meaning the opposite filament of the bulb lights up, not the same as the working one. Hopefully some one can help me out. Thanks!!

I am sure some of the truly knowledgeable guys will chime in soon. Have you tried swapping the bulb from the driver's side to the passenger's side to see if that fixes it?

I have seen people force the bulb in backwards before so check that first. 2nd make sure the socket isn't wired backwards. 3rd make sure there isn't a short between tail and brake/turn

Both bulbs work on the good side and both bulbs do not work on the bad side. Bulb goes in as it should. Tail light bucket is original and has not been hacked up. Voltage is at main harness like it should ie. when brake is applied, when turn signals are swithced, and when head lamps are turned on. I wonder if I run jumper wires from bad side plug to good tail light bucket and see if the problem stays or goes away then at least I can isolate it to the bucket and its wiring or the truck wiring??

If all voltages check out and there are no shorts then the wiring is switched behind the lamp holder. I had one vehicle like that years ago.

if you run a wire from one to the other, your turn signals wont work right. just look and see if the grounds are good and see if its wired backwards at the socket or wiring harness at the back...also like Skips said, could be trailer wiring problem...

Just wanted to update: got it working correctly by cutting tail light wiring at the connector and reversing the wires. All is working correctly now. Thanks for the help!

you can actually unsnap the wiring from the back of the housing and turn it 180 and resnap it on. presto. I learned that doing my bed swap
