Hard question for me, simple answer from YOU...
I've been having a dilemma with the year to call my truck. If some of you remember, my first post I stated I had a 71'. The only reason why I called it a 71' is because that is what the title is. The only thing that is a 71' is the cab because it was taken from a donor truck during the rebuild. The rest of the truck is a 69'.
My question is what do I call it, 69' or 71'? |

What does the country of California want you to call it?

The title from the previous owner had 71' Chevrolet C-10 Pickup. It was a base model 6 cyl, 6 lug before the project

Re: Hard question for me, simple answer from YOU...
I call mine a '67 Chevy swb stepper because that is what the title is for. It is really made up of at least 7 different year trucks including a tailgate for a '62 GMC.
I guess call your truck what ever feels right to you.

Re: Hard question for me, simple answer from YOU...
I know the feeling, I would probably say 69 if I were you. If you say 71 without explaining the whole ordeal and they know anything about these trucks, they will call you an idiot when you walk away. I would just call my blazer a 68, except, duh, they never made one, so then I'm the idiot if I say that. I do the whole explanation everytime I get asked "what year is that thang?" kinda tired of that.

Re: Hard question for me, simple answer from YOU...
If the rest of the truck is a stock 69 including the frame and engine, and someone asks, I would say it is a 69 with a 71 cab. Nothing wrong with that. Only reason I would do that is because of the grill. If it really is a concern, and it's a mix of different years, just try to find or swap for a 71 grill and just call it a 71.

If you own and drive one of these trucks for a while,it will let you know what to name it.Then you'll know what to call it.

Re: Hard question for me, simple answer from YOU...
That's what the previous owner did.
69' sounds better to me I will save the headache and endless conversations by calling it a 69'. I don't mind the ones that ask questions but I always seem to try and explain in detail why it's a 71'. |

Right after the first test drive left me by the side of the road 2 miles from the house, a young CHP stopped behind me and walked up with his "book" in his hand. I was legal. But, I thought, "Oh, no!" He nodded, walked to the front, and looked at RAT. He asked, "68 with a '72 front clip?" I said, "Yeah. Front clip's a '71". He said, "I had a '70." "Had to sell it when the first baby came." I knew he was waaay more squared away than some of the idiots that come up to all of us to start hammering on details in a less-than-friendly way. They start with something like, "How come you went with X-Y- or Z?" "I had one like that on my truck and I hated it", or whatever. Oh, well. RAT's registered as a '68. '68 cab...I can't remember what doors I used since I had six to choose from. No matter that the frame and suspension is '71... It's all new. 2013 mufflers. 2013 wiring . Mid-'80's 350 with mid-'90's serp system, '71 bed...blah, blah, blah. If I ever sell it, which would be a HUGE mistake, I'd have to spend a week with a new owner pointing at this, that, and the other. No need. When I'm dead, the kids get her. If My Woman even lets them get close. Paint jail has me "twitchin".

Re: Hard question for me, simple answer from YOU...
I'm kinda in the same boat. Mine is really a 70 with a 71/72 grill and 71/72 mirrors. It has a Cheyenne Super badge on the glove box (which makes no sense). I tell people its a 1970 with a 1972 front end, but have been thinking about just saying its a 72. Problem is I want some year of manufacture license plates and with that you don't get to choose, so I may need to stick with my spiel about 70 with a 72 grill or kill the idea of 1970 plates.
Ultimately, we may think its the majority, but it really a small part of the population that knows the difference anyhow. |
