'77 Ignition key lock removal
Did like the manual says:
Remove steering wheel and turn signal switch Place cylinder lock in run position Place small screw driver into rectangular column housing slot? Which one? It says to keep the screwdriver to the right side of the slot and to break the flashing away. Then use the screw driver to depress the spring clip on the end of the cylinder and remove it. I am confused. I just can't seem to find the rectangular slot they are referring to. I guess I could just punch the flashing out of all the rectangular slots in there close to the end of the cylinder...LOL! Anyone done this before? Thanks

do you have the column torn down enough to see the lock cylinder?
on the face looking directly at you, there is a very narrow slot, probably like 1/8" max wide by 1/2 or 3/4" tall... if you look inside there is a little silver spring/clip that extends into the slot once you install the lock cylinder all the way.. you push on that, while pulling the lock cylinder out. its really quite simple but if there is any chance thats its not a '77 column, then the procedure is different. it shouldnt be though..let me know how it goes mike |

mike, I will try as soon as it gets light today. I do remember the 1/8 inch slot and have the replacement cylinder here so that will help.

67Big10, Thanks but it still did not help. I punched the flashing out of the long thin slot, tried my best but could not get it to release. I just left it and went to a meeting. My son woke up went out to the truck...saw the slot I punched out, inserted a tool and it pulled right out! He thought I had already pulled it out for him and just set it back into the hole! Anyway the bad news is now the new one will not stay in. But it is back together with a new starter, new solenoid, new heat shield and new ignition switch.
