1969 GMC 305 V-Six 1500 series longbed
I got this truck about a year ago and haven't really had time to do much work on it until April because of school keeping me busy. I did body work on it to make the body smooth and fix some dents and rust problems. after a few months of on and off work I got the body ready to paint. My older brother then was about to paint when his compressor, that was two years old, broke. So not a big deal because he had painted three cars with it already. Then we went to get a new one and was about to start. He turned it on and it built pressure like normal but would never properly restart building pressure like it is suppose to do. So we went back to replace with another and we got home and it did the same exact thing. So that is compressor number three for this paint job. So we changed companies entirely for who we got the compressor from and it finally worked. We still need to put a few final touches to the exterior and then it will be done, but this is how the paint turned out. Not bad for 320 bucks! Enjoy the pics.

Re: 1969 GMC 305 V-Six 1500 series longbed
Nice paint- takes courage to do that !
General question (not trying to hijack): I also have the 69 longbed... but the tailgate has different graphics. Did the Custom and other trim levels change the tailgate logos? Mine has what was probably almost a woodgrain strip on it... no big easy-to-read 'GMC' on a white background (which I like). Continued good luck (with the exception of the compressors) |

Re: 1969 GMC 305 V-Six 1500 series longbed
Looks good. I need to paint the 305E GMC one of these days. Hope I can get tailgate letters clean like yours. I like the 305E but the rocker arm tube may need cleaning every 40 years or so.

Re: 1969 GMC 305 V-Six 1500 series longbed
At mtruckr, I believe the different trims would have the tailgates painted differently and the Cheyenne would have a chrome and wood strip on the tailgate above the letters. Most trucks I have seen had the letters painted white instead of the background. I did mine differently to improve the look and to make sure people know it is a GMC.

Re: 1969 GMC 305 V-Six 1500 series longbed
The black car is my '63 Corvair Sedan. The blue truck is our father's '64 GMC and the primered truck is my '71 Cheyenne. I will upload some pics a soon as possible.
