4x4 Factory big block nonbelievers

Just saw an ad for a 72 4wd for sale advertised as a factory big block truck. I commented that it was a very cool truck but wasn't a factory big block truck. Dude just gets mad and says it has 400 badges and is definitely a factory truck. Why don't more people actually research things before they make these claims. He messaged me and told me to mind my own business. Anyone can stick a fat block in a truck and stick 400 badges on it, kinda like most Yenko camaros advertised have been 100% real.....

Might be a factory big block and a 4x4 conversion from 2wd.

Re: 4x4 Factory big block nonbelievers

As far as I know big blocks were never put in a 4x4 in this era of truck....from the factory.
Another case of buyer beware...
I was under the impression the 400 was a small block as it is in my 76 formula 400?

He may be confused by the 400 vs 402 thing. Some just don't realize that there was a 400 SBC.I learn new stuff about these trucks every day and I've been playing with them since 1980 or so.

Whether that guy knows it and is telling a lie or truly and wrongly believes it,the fact is there were no factory big blocks offered in these K-model trucks. No 400 SBCs till later, too. My '72 unrestored all original paint factory K/20 Highlander Custom Camper had a 400 SBC and the emblems from a 402 truck (8-400) installed when I bought it. If I didn't know better (like this guy,I guess) I would have thought it was factory. The engine had all the '72 K/20 stuff off the 350 on it. I could have easily claimed it was factory

Whats his glove box say? That's what matters. Regardless, he will still probably sell it at a premium with this claim. My K20 has the big block in it but the seller was up front and said it wasn't original. Still happy that it has it though as it is a nice addition when done right.

Guess he's researching it further lol, he pulled his ad from several facebook for sale boards. What's bad is I wasn't trying to make him look ignorant or try to troll, but he clearly stated if was a factory big block truck and was using that as one of the main selling points.

Re: 4x4 Factory big block nonbelievers

It's not a big block, but my son has what might be the highest horse power offered by GM in a half ton 4X4. It's a 2012 Chevy Silverado 1500 with the 6.2, 405HP, 4X4,3.73 rear, 6 speed auto. I don't know if they intended it to be, but it's like a back door high performance truck! We ordered the Max-Trailoring Package, we got all the HD stuff without the fancy non performance gissmos. This truck flat out hauls! It'll run the quarter in the 14 second range in pure stock trim and IT'S A 4X4! Almost like the General messed up and gave us what we wanted! lol.

No,they just didn't do it. They didn't even do it in the next body style for a few years, even though the engine bay provides plenty of room. The guy would have to provide bonafide* proof, which I'm sure just ain't happening because no such truck was ever factory built. They did hi-performance COPO 427 cars for the drag strip. It was an exception they were willing to make to help promote the brand w/o being officially involved. GM dropped out of racing to promote safety "on the street",yet still kinda sorta built race cars. The COPO trucks you'll find had exceptions for reasons other purposes.
