need info on 82 crew cab dually
I sadly just sold my 1985 chevy silverado shortbed. but hey i made money on it.
i have ran across this dually here. ill post the link and pic. I have never dealt with a dually. guy says it could be a daily driver. 366 big block? doesnt seem to be a factory engine so idk what to make of that. any info could help. it is missing the back seat. is this guy asking a fair price? how much should i offer him? he is offereng a set of steelies if i dont want it with the alcoas. http://wichita.craigslist.org/cto/3914741243.html |

jf the body is in decent shape, not a bad price for where i live. i'm not crazy 'bout the 366, school bus motor (med. duty trucks). not much out there for them. biggest prob. is the small bore, & you'd have to be brave to push it past 3500 rpm. don't quote me, but i belive they were around 200ish hp & around 4-450 lbs torque. i would keep the 16" alcoa's. looks much better then them goofy foot & a half rims with rubber band tires

Re: need info on 82 crew cab dually
366 parts aren't that hard to find. I don't think they are bad engines (otherwise why were they produced for more than 30 years?) They just aren't the go fast engines like the 427 and 454. They make enough powe to move around school buses and dump trucks. Should be better on fuel than the others. I think I might take a second look at it. And keep the Alcoas.

Re: need info on 82 crew cab dually
I talked to the guy a lil more about it and we agreed on 1600 but he wants to keep the tach and the battery and cut the 5th wheel out of the bed. He didn say that till I almost told him I was on my way with 1600. Im beginning to worry about the character I'm dealing with. I told the guy to forget it he can't tell me s**t about the truck anyway. The truck is about a 45-hour drive that's a long ways to drive and not know exactly what your looking at. The truck would have to serve as a daily driver project and I don't think it's up to par. The price gap for an old school Chevy truck is crazy around here it's either 1500 and your getting something incomplete or a list of issues or pay 6000+ for something in fair condition sorry I'm just venting

I forgot to mention this guy told me he's never driven the truck don't know how it shifts or rides if it needs any repairs and unwilling to send me pictures of under the hood.

Never driven it and won't send pics? Red flag for me. Not a deal breaker, but doesn't give the warm fuzzy.
If you invest the time to look at it, go over it with a fine tooth comb. Also factor getting it home into the cost, whether it's a trailer or paying for a tow, (or whatever you choose...) Any idea how long it's been sitting? (has the add been recycled for the past 6 mos.?)

If he won't send pics and wants to take that much stuff off after the deal is made, I would pass too. That red and white truck looks nice. Might just be worth the time to check out!!
