I lurk no more.......
Hi Everyone! I've been on the forum for a little while now, but until the 5th of july, I didn't own a classic Chevy truck. I bought a 1971 C10 shortbed fleetside from Randy H. in Joplin,MO. he had started to do the restoration on this classic, but his family grew and he passed the torch onto me. I'll post some pictures tomorrow of my project, as I don't have any here with me at the moment.
My plans are to do a "Resto-Mod" I'm leaving the truck stock for the most part, except 4/6 drop and I'm going to run a LQ9 6.0 engine with factory EFI, A/C and Power steering, rear disc brakes-(already has front disc) I'm going to spring for some nice Billet wheels later, but for now, I have a nice set of 15 x 8 rally's with the deep trim rings. my plan is to convert this Non Air cab to A/C Using the factory A/C housing, and cable controls, but run the newer cycling compressor type system -vs. POA valve setup. I'm getting ready to blast the frame and cab with recycled crushed glass, and start the rust repairs on the rocker panels and cab corners.well, I have to run, but I'll update this tomorrow with some pictures. Have a good one! Ben Smith |

Re: I lurk no more.......
well, I found out the whole 6.0 build was just going to cost me far more than the wife would allow, so, I'm staying with a 350-383 build with a 700R4 trans, 3:73 posi. Chassis is almost finished, body work is started, and I have massed most every nut and bolt I'll need to finish putting it all back together....More to come later, I have to get to work now.
Have a good one! Ben |

Re: I lurk no more.......
well,
This One is going to be Black......inside and out. I have some friends at my work that are making me some custom "8-383"fender badges (stock appearing) but CNC'd in aluminum, that and the little custom touches here and there, but mostly stock. 4/5 drop, planning on running the Ridler 645 rims...should be killer looks. I have the chassis mostly complete, only have brake lines left to do. I am running a 16 gallon fuel cell mounted under the bed (or where the bed goes) bed and body is still in pieces...... my cab was tweaked from being hit at some point, when I went to fit the doors, the driver's side just wouldn't fit in the upper rear corner almost as if the top had been bent down and back......tried using a porta power to bend it back but no go.......so, I bought another cab, and I have to do the usual rust repairs, partial floor pans, inner/outer rockers, cab corners any way's I'll add some pics later to show my progress. Have a good one! Ben |

Re: I lurk no more.......
Bummer about bailing on the 6.0 build. I just started my first one. It isn't cheap but can't be too much more than a built 383... sweet truck either way. Can't wait to see it done!

Re: I lurk no more.......
here are a few of the chassis, never mind the tires, they are just to roll it around. I'm gonna run the rally's until I get the ridler 645's. now to get the body work done and Paint.....

Re: I lurk no more.......
well,
I just visited my friends at Classic Chevy parts once more, dropped another $300 in panels, got almost everything I needed except the outer floor extensions, won't be in for another six days.......dang, and I was really looking forward to getting that done prior to Memorial day..... I did manage to get a few sneak peek photos of my new fender badges some friends of mine at work are whittling out for me.......I can't say I'll be able to get these in mass quantities, but might be able to get a few sets, perhaps more if I bribe them..... otherwise, I'm still plugging away when I can. I had two of the kids Graduate Saturday from high school, so that was a distraction from my plans, but it was well worth it, seeing my Step daughter and Son get their diploma was a very proud moment for us. Enjoy! Ben |

Those badges are cool. That will be a nice custom touch when they are put on.

Re: I lurk no more.......
well, I asked them for two sets, and I just asked them if I supplied the materials, would they make more.....so, I could do that.......since these are "one Off" and I've seen similar ones, but no one is marketing these (as far as I have researched) how's $75 shipped? these are flat on the back side, and need to be attached with double sided emblem tape (the machinist was worried about drilling through the front if he tapped them for studs) I should have these today or tomorrow, I can send some additional pictures then.
Have a good one! Ben |

Re: I lurk no more.......
Those guys could do a great business on this site if they want to. They should make ones with 5.3, 6.0, etc. When I do my LS swap I would gladly pay for a set of 5.3.

Re: I lurk no more.......
well,
I did get a reply and the superviser of that shop said he wasn't going to pursue making "Mass Quantities" of these, basically told me he did this as a favor, perhaps one or two sets here and there but not full on production......I would have to say the 5.3, 6.0, etc...would be real easy as they already have the program written for their CNC mill. I'll ask, but might be a while before they will make them. Ben |
